Born and raised in Durango , Colorado, Mark Stevens started in radio in the early 1980s, moving to Colorado Springs in 1985 and working at 98.1 KKFM back when it was known as “Real Radio” and was back a few notches on the dial at 96.5. “The first song I played on KKFM was ‘Party all the Time’ from Eddie Murphy “ says Stevens. Fortunately for all of us, in early 1986KKFM became one of the first classic rock stations in the country! “We started with albums , then tapes, then CD’s…now some kind of robot thing that plays our music and makes us sammiches.”
Radio has changed a lot over the years, just like everything else” says Stevens, “but it is still a kick ass time every afternoon to sprinkle in the weird news and crime stories of the day, and then play the best music ever created.”
Stevens owns a 2001 Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic, and this summer a return trip to Sturgis is in preparation. Skiing, football watching and engaging in vigorous political discourse are some of his pastimes, in addition to guilty pleasures on TV like True Blood, Spartacus , Mad Men , The Walking Dead , even the new Beavis and Butthead and of course the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to help shape the days and nights.
Never married (not that surprising) and after living and working in both Dallas and Washington DC, being back in Colorado is a blessing. “But, this frakking for oil in North Dakota , now that sounds like …something.”
For now, though you can find him on Facebook at Facebook.com/Mark Stevens. Until the end times..let’s keep the party going!
